It is spring now, cherry blossoms are blooming everywhere. Usually during this time, Japanese will gather with their friends or family and have hanami (flower viewing) under the cherry blossom trees. Usually people will gather in the park or public places which have a lot of cherry blossom trees, bring some food and drink and enjoy their time under the cherry blossom trees.
Yesterday, Indonesian students studying in Tokodai also had hanami in Shinjuku Gyoen (新宿御苑). It is a park with many different kinds of cherry blossoms in it. It is open from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm, with 200 yen admission fee for one person. But for people going in a group (30 people or more), the admission fee will be reduced to 150 yen per person.
In this hanami, everybody brought some food or drink to be shared with each other. There were also some introductions of new students coming to Tokodai. After having some introduction of new students and lunch, the photo session came. I walked around the park and took some pictures of the cherry blossoms.
There were also hanami with HIPPO Family Club today. I met my host family and then we had hanami together. Every family brought their own food and shared with other families. This time, the hanami was held at Tokodai Ookayama campus. There were cherry blossom trees in our campus and during this time, many people come for hanami. I had a lot of talk with my host family, and also met some other HIPPO members. I got a great news because my host mom said that she was pregnant again and would give birth this October.
Today is also Easter. My friend’s host mom who was a Christian gave Easter egg to children while saying “イースターの卵です”. The eggs were colored in several colors and packed beautifully. It was a great day, celebrating Easter while seeing cheery blossoms blooming 🙂
Japanese usually look forward to the cherry blossoms blooming. They have many kinds of products related to cherry blossom which are limited only during spring time. One of them is Kitkat, there is sakura matcha Kitkat (桜抹茶キットカット) which is a combination between cherry blossom and Japanese green tea flavor.
